Candolim beach

 

Candolim Beach is one of most frequented and popular beach of Northern Goa. The beach starts at the footsteps of the highly acclaimed Fort Aguada, built by the Portuguese in 1612.This sandy stretch runs into Calangute Beach, a busy and commercialized center.

The Candolim Beach itself is long and straight, backed by scrub-covered dunes, which is very popular with package tourists. These beaches are quite peaceful than other beaches of Goa as it is a dispersed village with no real center.

 

Calangute Beach

Old Goa Church

 

The Basilica of Bom Jesus Church located in Goa is one of a kind in India and is known for its exemplary baroque architecture. Built in 1594 and consecrated in 1605, the building of this church coincides with the beginning of Christianity in India. The church is located in Old Goa in Bainguinim about 10 km away from Panjim. The oldest church in Goa, it holds the remains of St. Francis Xavier, a special friend of St. Ignatius Loyola with whom he founded the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). Even after 400 years, the remains are in good condition and are taken out once every decade. 

Museum – Old Goa

 

The museum was established in 1964 and reorganized in 1981–82. Housed in the convent portion of the church of St. Francis of Assisi, antiquities displayed in 8 galleries include the objects from the prehistoric and early historic period to the late mediaeval period. The importance of this museum lies in the display of the portrait paintings of governors and viceroys, wooden sculptures, pillars, capitals, postal stamps likewise many other objects which belong to the Portuguese period in Goa.

Balaji Temple,

This temple is dedicated to Lord Balaji and is located in Cuncoleim Village in Ponda. The temple has been made a part of the Kanchikamakoti Peetam and has been blessed by his Holiness Swami Jagadguru Sankaracharya. The idols of Lord Balaji and Padmavathi were given by the TTD trust of Tirupati. Balaji temple in Goa is one of the most serene and beautiful places to visit. It is visited by devotees for peace and tranquility.

 

Shri Mangeshi Temple

 

Located at Priol in the Ponda Taluka, Shri Mangeshi Temple is at a distance of 22 kms from Panaji. Dedicated to Lord Manhueshi who is a form of another Hindu God Lord Shiva, it is quite popular amongst tourists.

 

Panjim Church in Goa

The Panjim Church of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception is placed on the hillside and just high above the Idalco Palace built by Adil Shah. Standing on the gallery of the church, you can see the entire view of the lovely Panjim city. It is one of Panjim's best attractions located in the heart of Panjim city and is the first church of Goa, built in 1541.
In this century this area was hilly and residential. Land around was swampy covered by the field of paddy, coconuts groves and watery. It was in 1843 the land was developed by the Viceroy when he took over Panjim; and in the year 1855 the 'Praca de Flores' (Square of Flower's) was built in front of the church. In the year 1619 the church was re-constructed by enlarging it further looking at the population growth.
 

Dona Paula

Located around 7kms from Panjim, Dona Paula is one of the most popular tourist hangouts in Goa famous for its vast stretch of beach. The small beach is also popular as the Lover's Paradise and features a jetty (Dona Paula Jetty) adjacent to it, which provides an ethereal view of the Arabian Sea and Mormugao harbour. Another attraction here is the whitewashed statue, called 'Image of India', depicting Mother India and Young India.

The Dona Paula is named after then Goa Viceroy's daughter Dona Paula de Menezes in honour of her tragic love story. She is believed to have fallen in love with a local fisherman but was denied to get married by the Viceroy. This led to her jumping from a cliff which is flanked by and named as Dona Paula.

 

Miramar Beach

 

An urban beach in North Goa, Miramar Beach was once known as Gasper Dias Beach. A short distance away from Panaji, Goa’s capital city, Miramar is a family-friendly beach but also a perfect place for groups of friends to hangout as well as fitness lovers who can enjoy morning and evening walks/run or yoga sessions here. There are handful of watersports activities available at Miramar Beach for the adventure lovers. However, for those wishing to hangout at the beach, there are many restaurants and bars promising great food and concoction of drinks.
